Eagles Mere Historic Village will once again host its Annual Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9 and 10. This year’s event marks the 54th year of the festival, continuing a long-standing tradition of celebrating handmade artistry, craftsmanship and community spirit.

This beloved public event will take place, rain or shine, on the town’s Village Green from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults and free for
children under 12. Attendees can also enjoy a two-day pass for just $10, with all proceeds
benefiting nonprofit organizations in Eagles Mere that support community programs
throughout the year.

Guests at the festival will find a wide variety of art, including handcrafted jewelry, woodwork,
felt, fiber, leather, glass pieces, photography and pottery. Attendees can browse these unique
finds while enjoying good food and live music throughout the festival.

The Village Shops and local restaurants will be open as well, serving breakfast, lunch, and
dinner, along with farm-fresh produce, baked goods, specialty coffees and frozen treats. The

The iconic Eagles Mere Sweet Shop is reopening its doors following a significant renovation made possible, in part, by a grant from The Eagles Mere Foundation.

What began as a modest project to replace the griddle and kitchen flooring quickly evolved into
a full-scale restoration effort focused on revitalizing the Sweet Shop’s commercial kitchen—a
vital component of its day-to-day operations. The renovation marks the second such
undertaking in recent years. Now complete, the most recent work has revitalized a beloved
destination while also highlighting the mission and momentum of The Eagles Mere Historic
Village, Inc. (EMHVI).

The Foundation’s generous $7,225 grant contributed to the purchase of a new, commercial-
grade griddle—covering approximately half of its total cost. In total, the broader kitchen
renovation cost $46,000, which was funded through other private contributions. The extensive
improvements on the historic space include leveled subfloors with updated vinyl flooring,
improved kitchen drainage, rewired electrical systems and fully insulated, moisture-resistant
walls clad in fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) panels. Rotted joists were replaced, outdated
storm windows were upgraded and new, durable trim now frames the refreshed interior. These
behind-the-scenes upgrades mean the Sweet Shop is not just better looking—it’s more
functional, safer, and built to last.

The Sweet Shop is one of several properties owned and maintained by EMHVI, a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit founded in 2003 to purchase, restore and preserve the historic commercial buildings
in Eagles Mere’s town center. Over the past two decades, EMHVI has invested millions into
protecting the charm and utility of the Village, including the General Store Complex and other
well-loved institutions.

In just the past three years alone, EMHVI has invested more than $600,000 in the Village for
projects that range from re-siding the General Store to installing universal Wi-Fi downtown and
adding electric vehicle charging stations on the Village Green. These projects were made
possible solely through the generosity of private donors, with no taxpayer funding involved.

EMHVI invites residents, visitors and long-time supporters to stop by the newly renovated
Sweet Shop this season to experience the improvements firsthand—and to consider including
EMHVI in their annual giving.

The Eagles Mere Historic Village, Inc. (EMHVI), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was created in 2003 as to purchase and restore the commercial buildings in the center of town including the General Store Complex and the Sweet Shop. This was a multi-year, multi-million-dollar, joint effort between individual town-based donors, and the state and federal governments. EMHVI now owns and maintains these historic buildings and serves as the landlord for the shops and restaurants in the Village that operate for the benefit of residents and visitors alike. 

In just the past three years, the EMHVI has spent more than $600,000 to renovate both the General Store, re-siding it and adding new water filtration system, updated and modernized the Sweet Shop, created a provided for universal WiFI Wi-Fi downtown, added charging pods to the Green to accommodate electric vehicles, and fully restored the town clock. Funded solely by donors, the need for more consistent funding is readily apparent, which is why the Village board recently enacted a 3% is adding a modest Historic Preservation fee preservation fee to Sweet Shop bills.

While the notion of a new fee of this nature may be off-putting to some, it’s really no different than the fees we all pay for garbage collection, country club dues, lake association dues, etc.

The beauty of the town center and the convenience that the shops and restaurants offer does not come without a cost, and with 120+ year-old buildings, the upkeep is never ending.

Eagles Mere is hosting its 48th Annual Antiques Market on Saturday, July 1 st from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place on the Village Green, located on the corner of PA-42 and Pennsylvania Avenue, across the street from the iconic Sweet Shop.

The market will offer a variety of unique antique dealers from around the state, each selling authentic antiques ranging from one-of-a-kind trinkets to furniture, home decorations, and more. Market-goers will also be able to enjoy delicious food and live music while browsing the various antiques dealers’ collections. In addition to the festival, several Village shops and eateries will be open offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with farm fresh foods, homemade desserts, ice cream, specialty coffees, jewelry, housewares, and other miscellaneous items. For those looking to rent or buy in the Eagles Mere area, the real estate offices will also be open for interested prospects.

The antique market will be open to the public and is free for children 12 and under. There is a $5.00 admission fee for anyone over the age of 12. Ticket proceeds directly benefit the Eagles Mere nonprofit organizations that assist with the events and the Eagles Mere Conservancy for the upkeep of the beautiful Village Green.

Tucked away in the endless mountain regions of Pennsylvania, Eagles Mere is located along PA-42 in Sullivan County, six miles from US-220 in Muncy Valley and Laporte. The Eagles Mere Historic Village is proud to announce the installation of two new AEDs
(Automated External Defibrillators) for the community. These devices have been placed in The
Sweet Shop and The EM Country Store as a furtherment of the dedication of the Historic
Village’s commitment to the well-being of the community.

An AED is a life-saving device that is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It’s
a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if
necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an
effective rhythm.

The Sweet Shop and The EM Country Store are two central locations in which the AEDs will be
easily accessible. The devices will be regularly maintained and monitored so that, if necessary,
they are always ready to use.
